Umar Farooq is a freelance multimedia journalist based in New Delhi and Kashmir.

He attended AJKMCRC Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi where he studied Still Photography and Visual Communication. Prior to that, he holds a bachelor's degree in journalism and mass communication from Cluster University Srinagar.

Umar's deep passion for photojournalism led him to start his journalistic work at a very young age.

His interest expanded beyond photojournalism after he began interning with regional independent newsrooms and interned with Kashmir's top three independent newsrooms.

Over the years, from writing feature stories to reports to producing and filming short documentaries to video stories, Umar has thrived in covering breaking news, filming for independent producers.

Umar has covered stories related to press freedom, human rights, healthcare, culture, technology, tourism, and the environment. His work across photo, text, and video formats has been published in the South China Morning Post, I-News UK, LGBTQ Nation, Article 14, Newsclick.in, Maktoob Media, Newsreel Asia, The Citizen, The Wire, Two Circles, Outlook, Free Press Kashmir, The Kashmir Walla, The Kashmiriyat, and many others.
